Building Blocks Family Centre based in Resolven, Neath Port Talbot, has been awarded £100,000 over 3 years to deliver a new project supporting families, children and young people who are affected by disability.

The Thriving Upward project will support children and young people aged 0-11 years with a disability or pre diagnosis, by providing one-to-one support through play-based sessions. We will also work with the parents and family as a whole by providing tailored advice and information, whilst helping to implement strategies at home that children have learnt during their time in the project.

This new National Lottery funding will mean that 60 Children will work towards improved child development milestones and socialisation skills, through attending dedicated one to one support provision. They will also improve their confidence, self-esteem and emotional resilience, and will have reduced anxiety around separation from parents.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

Quote from Christina James, Parenting Officer;
‘ I am so pleased and thankful that we have received this funding from the National Lottery. Children with disabilities and their families can face a number of challenges and barriers when it comes to receiving support, so we know the importance of having a local, accessible service that will support them and help meet their needs. This funding will ensure that disabled children will get the same opportunities as their peers whilst also supporting the family as a whole.
We look forward to seeing the differences made from this service and would like to thank the National Lottery for their support.’

One of our Main Aims as an organisation is to improve the quality of life of children and young people and their families affected by disability, so we are truly grateful that The National Lottery Community Fund is helping us to achieve this.

This project will begin April 2023. For further information please contact: Building Blocks Family Centre on 01639 710076 or visit our website www.buildingblocksfamilycentre.co.uk.

About The National Lottery Community Fund

We are the largest funder of community activity in the UK – we support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

We’re proud to award money raised by National Lottery players to communities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and to work closely with Government to distribute vital grants and funding from key Government programmes and initiatives.

Our funding has a positive impact and makes a difference to people’s lives. We support projects focussed on things that matter, including economic prosperity, employment, young people, mental health, loneliness and helping the UK reach NET Zero by 2050.

Thanks to the support of National Lottery players, our funding is open to everyone. We’re privileged to be able to work with the smallest of local groups right up to UK-wide charities, enabling people and communities to bring their ambitions to life.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million each week for good causes throughout the UK. Since The National Lottery began in 1994, £43 billion has been raised for good causes. National Lottery funding has been used to support over 635,000 projects – 255 projects per postcode area.
